My Little Mini-Me

Last month a made a skirt and had some left over fabric. So I made a little dress my sweet little girl so we could be twiners! I loved going to church all matchy-matchy.

Hem Jeans with Original Hem

I just bought a pair of pants that I LOVE...but, they are way too long. I thought they'd be OK with shoes and folded up a bit. But they were driving me crazy, and the if they dragged they would just ruin way too quickly. Here's the before pics of my nice-long-bunched-up-dragging pants:

 1. The first step is to fold up and measure how much you want to hem. I needed to make them just under 2" shorter so that they just barely touch the floor. So I folded it just under 1" up so that they'd be 2" shorter.
 2. Pin in place. Make sure that it's the same measurement all the way around. Also make sure that each leg is measured equally (unless your legs are different lengths :).
 3. Then using your zipper foot, sew right along the edge of the original hem.
 4. After the hem is sewn, you could either cut off the excess fabric, or fold it inside (just in case you want to make them longer again some day).
 5. Use your iron to press the seam flat. You shouldn't see the seam, and your original hem is still there.
 6. To make sure the excess fabric stays in place, I took a needle and thread, and by hand I did a very small stitch every 1/4 inch - just grabbing a thread or two on the pant and the excess. By just grabbing a few threads, it will help keep in place, but won't show your stitches on the other side.
 7. All complete! Now I'll probably actually wear these pants now. :)

Woman to Child - Refasion

My mother-in-law had a big ole' pile of clothes she was going to give-a-way, so I took advantage and stole a few! There was a sweater vest that first caught my eye. It had such a cute print. So I decided to make my little girl a dress! Literally 10 minutes. I sewed in the sides. Cut off the excess, and used the excess to make a ruffle. Voila!

High-Waisted Skirt

I bought a skirt a few months ago on clearance that was being discontinued. I love it so much that I made a copy-cat! This was super ambitious of me. But I basically traced the skirt, and piece by piece I was so excited to come up with this!! The fabric totally makes the skirt. The cuteness of the fabric hides my little flaws :) You can find the fabric here. Make sure to use a 50 % off coupon that Joann's has all of the time. I used just barely over a yard of fabric too. A cute skirt for under $10!

The pockets make me happy. I like this style I just might make another one! (If so, I'll try and do a tutorial).

Little Man Fashion

I have one little girl. My sibling all have girls too! So when I found out my sister-in-law was going to have a boy, I got excited to try out some of these baby boy onesies. (Hopefully she won't see these pictures before she gets her package!) Although there seems to be endless possibilities for dressing a little girl, there are still some very cute ways to dress you baby boy too! I know these are far from perfect, but fun nonetheless.

Tie and vest - formal wear

T-Shirt Refashioning

My husband had a shirt that was now too small for him. I had always loved this shirt. I couldn't bring myself to giving it away. So I decided to do a little refashioning. This was the XL button up:
These were the cuts I made to make the shirt work for me. I made sure to leave about 1/2" for seam allowance. I also removed the pocket.
I sewed in the sides, re-hemmed the bottom, took in the sleeves, and sewed the sleeves back on. I used the strip of fabric I cut off the bottom of the shirt as my ruffle.
 Viola! Good as new.

Pants to Dress

My husband had some pants that were now too short, so I cut them off to make them into shorts. So with some well hemmed pieces of fabric I decided to make something for my baby girl.
I started out with one picture ... but then I got way too excited and just kept going and no more pictures were taken until this cute little dress was all finished! I had some extra piping from some pillows I had done, and extra buttons from a headboard I made....who knew that scraps from a pair of pants, a pillow and a headboard could make a cute little dress!

Easy Onesie

My baby girl goes through several onesies a day. This is a fun way to save some money, but still have a cute little stylish baby. Take some scraps of fabric left over from other projects. Buy a 5 pack of the plain white onesies for $8-$10 depending on where you buy them, and what brand you go with. Brainstorm a few ideas of what you could make with the fabric you have, draw up a little design, and go for it! Owls are all over the place, so I decided to go with a cute little colorful owl. Cut out your pieces:
Then cut out matching bond paper to each piece. Depending on the directions on the package - you should iron each piece of fabric to it's matching bond paper piece for about 2-3 seconds.
Pull off the fabric from the paper and place it on your onesie. Start with the bottom piece and work your way up. So I did the brown, then green, pink, eyes, beak and nose. Iron each piece for about 6-7 seconds until it is secure. If you use felt you should sew it on because the bond paper doesn't adhere very well to the felt.
If you really want to make it last sew the edge of each piece to enforce it. Within just a few minutes you've got a cute new little onesie! Anywhere from ties to butterflies the possibilities are endless!
